Okay, I know this one is really, really disjointed. Originally, that's kinda what I was goin' for, but now I think it sounds TOO disjointed. There are a few sections I'd probably change (the swing section, some of the tribal stuff), and I think it would be better to try to blend some of these parts together a bit better... Have them flow into each other a little more smoothly, y'know? I'd tell ya what you're gonna hear here, but there's way too much of it. Just know that the verses fall over the carnival stuff, the "& the pattern isn't only in your mind" part falls over the trumpet run, and "ceremony" comes right before the part you'd think it would. Uh, past that... you're on your own...

LYRICS

the crowd is oblivious

& oh, so mysterious

Patti anals under

power to power

it's deeper per hour

bend over

singing along

to our own private song

have no fear

& the pattern isn't only in your mind

ceremony

girl. soft. hard. ball.

commisioner of the norm

designer of the uniform

this town needs an enema

The rhythm's apparent

unless you can't bare it

bend over

blood from your smile

is so plastic & mindless

i hate you

& the pattern isn't only in your mind

ceremony

hey batter batter hey hey batter batter...

swing

power to power

it's deeper per hour

girl. soft. hard.

ball.

power to power

we're building a tower

ceremony

bend over

[repeat 'til end]

I wrote the lyrics and melodies for this one while watching a girl's softball game at the park, hopped up on 'shrooms or ergot or something. I was struck by the way the sound of the frogs and crickets in the barranca was mixing perfectly with the chants and cheers of the people in the stands... like it was all part of one, big song. I started singing to the rhythm it was creating, and added in a couple of phrases I thought I heard the crowd yelling (I would've sworn someone said "Anal under, Patti! Anal under!"). Anyway, then I started imagining the fans of each side as, like, Voodoo warriors, throwing out chants and magicks at each other, attempting on some level to sway the outcome of the game... It evolved into a song about the unseen patterns underlying reality... And there ya go. To imagine how the verse vocals might sound, think "Dead Goon" from the first Mr. Bungle album...
